The leading cause of death in Baltimore City is cardiovascular disease. Many of these deaths can be prevented through proper nutrition and regular exercise. As part of my vision for a healthier Baltimore, I kicked off 2009 with the launch of my Be Fit Baltimore initiative.
The purpose of this initiative is to ensure every resident in Baltimore City, regardless of the neighborhood they live in or how much money they make, has access to the tools they need to be healthy. This is not a privilege but a basic right all of our residents should have.
Baltimore already has all of the resources it needs for its residents to be healthy including some of the best hospitals in the world.
