YOUR life. YOUR body. YOUR choices.
No matter what you want to do in life, making sure that you stay healthy will help you get there – and feel better doing it!
Did you know...?
- Being fit means eating foods that will help your body do its best, and staying active to keep your heart strong.
- There are plenty of things you can do right now to make sure you stay fit for life.
Eat right.
- The calories in food are what give your body energy. If you eat more calories than you burn up through activity, your body stores the extra as fat. Eating too many calories leads to obesity, which can cause a number of diseases.
- Your body also needs nutrients to help you grow and stay in good shape. One way to make sure you get all the right nutrients is to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
- Grab one fruit + one vegetable with lunch and dinner every day.
- Lots of foods have too many calories and not enough nutrients. Try to avoid foods that are greasy or super-sweet.
- Cut out the soda – drink water or skim milk instead!
Get moving.
- Exercise helps keep your heart and other muscles strong. Limit the amount of time you spend sitting around watching TV or playing video games, and get active!
- Do 30 minutes of exercise 3 times every week.
- There are lots of ways you get exercise. If you like to play sports, join your school’s team! You can also check out programs for kids at a Recreation Center near you.
- Even if you don’t like sports, you can still exercise in lots of other ways. Dancing, jumping rope, riding your bike, or even going for a walk are fun ways to stay active. Be creative and team up with your friends and family to think of other activities that will get you moving!
